Course on Trauma and Joint Replacements

Orthopaedics as a speciality is like being in the army. The General leads and no questions are asked. In an attempt to encourage maximum interaction and fellowship, IGOF has prepared a novel programme for March 1,2,3 – 2013 at Bhubaneswar, Orissa. Each seminar will feature unique programmes to ensure dialogue, discussion and argument. This is the only way we can progress as clinicians – by asking and answering questions.
This conference features – The Great Debate, Meet the Masters and The Grand Orthopaedic Quiz. We will also award the Mohandas – Weller Gold Medal Award to the most promising Young Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Day 1: March 01, 2013
“The Great Debate” is a program to unearth conflicting standpoints among experts for in depth analysis of pros and cons of techniques used in case of Intracapsular fracture of the neck of femur through Fibula Graft and Valgus Osteotomy.
Debate will be moderated by the Panel Expert Prof. Dr. Ulrich Holz.
Dr. Nirmal Mohapatra will be arguing in favor of Fibula Graft, whereas Dr. Ram Prasad shall argue vouching for Valgus Osteotomy as best option in case of Intracapsular Fracture of the neck of Femur.
Day 2: March 02, 2013
Programme: MEET THE MASTERS – PELVIC FRACTURES
IGOF will bring together experts in orthopaedics to disseminate invaluable ideas, knowledge, latest updates, predictions for future and best clinical practices in brief lecture sessions.
Dr. CP Das will share his “Odisha Experience” which will include memorable and interesting instances he came across which can be taught by no text books.
Prof. Trentz shall enlighten students to think imaginatively and conceptually about Acetabular Reconstruction – ORIF (Open Reduction, Internal Fixation)
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Holz will throw light on “Delayed Management” and explain various case scenarios.
he Masters shall engage in practical discussions and explain fundamental theory, allowing all levels of students and practitioners to gain detailed understanding. They might also elucidate information that the audience would have come across but puts them across in a way that allows for better clinical usage of the information.

Programme: GRAND ORTHOPAEDIC QUIZ
The “Grand Orthopaedic Quiz” is designed to encourage active participation from the enthusiastic student community having deep interest in the subject of orthopaedics.
Participation Requisites
- Should be a Post Graduate trainee
- Each team should send CV of all team members (Total 3 members per team) to registrations@igof.in by 25th February, 2013
Teams
- Total participating teams = 4
- Members per team = 3
Accolades
- Winning team shall be awarded cash prize of Rs. 9000
- First Runners up team shall be awarded cash prize of Rs. 3000
Certification
- Every participant shall claim their participation certificate

MOHANDAS – WELLER GOLD MEDAL AWARD The prestigious Mohandas – Weller Gold Medal Award is conferred to healthcare professional or student who can come up with innovative ideas or a distinguished presentation on a complex case.
The Mohandas – Weller award is an initiative to boost the budding talent to spread their lateral thinking across various interests in the field of orthopaedics and to attend complex scenarios with special interest, giving attention to details, to crack difficult problems.
Participation Requisites for Free Paper Presentation
- Should be a Post Graduate or Young Orthopaedic surgeons aged below 40 years
Procedure
- The participants have to register and then submit the paper at the preview booth before 9am on the day of their presentation
- Only first 5 registrants will be selected for this pre-lunch presentation
- 5 papers can be presented before lunch on each day (all 3 days)
- Each presentation will be for 4 mins
- 1 min for questions
Accolades
- “Mohandas – Weller” gold medal for Winner
- Cash prize of Rs. 20,000 for Winner and Rs. 5,000 for Runner Up
- Certificate for Winner and Runner Up
