IGOF Master Course in Shoulder & Knee 2026

The Indo-German Orthopaedic Foundation (IGOF) Master Course in Shoulder & Knee 2026 successfully concluded at MIOT International, Chennai, following three days of academic exchange, expert-led learning, practical training and collaboration.

Held from 17 to 19 September 2026, the course brought together leading orthopaedic experts, physiotherapists, rehabilitation professionals, postgraduate trainees and delegates to explore contemporary approaches in shoulder and knee surgery, sports medicine, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and prehabilitation.

The programme reflected IGOF's continuing commitment to advancing orthopaedic education and clinical practice through knowledge-sharing, practical learning and international collaboration.

A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Founded in 1992 by Prof. Dr. P. V. A. Mohandas and Prof. Siegfried Weller, the Indo-German Orthopaedic Foundation has evolved into a distinguished academic platform connecting orthopaedic experts from across the world.

Over the years, IGOF has continued to promote clinical excellence, innovation and learning by creating opportunities for experts and young orthopaedists to exchange knowledge and discuss advances in orthopaedic care.

Day 1: Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Prehabilitation

17 September 2026

The Master Course commenced with a dedicated programme on Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Prehabilitation, bringing together more than 30 faculty members and close to 400 delegates.

The day featured focused sessions on:

• Shoulder and scapular rehabilitation
• Sports injury management
• ACL prehabilitation and rehabilitation
• Knee ligament and ankle rehabilitation
• Muscle strengthening
• Return-to-sport assessment

Practical workshops further strengthened the learning experience, covering advanced rehabilitation techniques, clinical assessment, taping and return-to-sport protocols.

Day 1 marked a strong beginning to the three-day programme, emphasising the important role of rehabilitation in helping patients regain movement, function and confidence after injury or surgery.

Day 2: Shoulder Programme

Theme: Visual Learning – Shoulder Concepts Simplified
18 September 2026

Day 2 brought together more than 35 faculty members and around 300 delegates for a day of in-depth discussions, clinical debates, case-based learning and relive surgery presentations.

The day featured a special address by Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, Secretary, IGOF and Managing Director, MIOT International, who took the audience through the rich history and evolution of the Indo-German Orthopaedic Foundation. He reflected on IGOF's three-decade journey as a platform for academic excellence, knowledge-sharing and the advancement of orthopaedic care.

This was followed by the formal inauguration, commemorated through the traditional lighting of the lamp in the presence of distinguished members of IGOF and MIOT International.

With the theme "Visual Learning – Shoulder Concepts Simplified," the programme used an engaging visual approach to explain complex shoulder conditions and contemporary surgical concepts.

The day covered a wide range of topics, including:

• Shoulder instability and bony defects
• Shoulder arthroplasty
• Rotator cuff tears
• Bankart and labral repairs
• Biological augmentation
• Tendon transfers
• Trauma and complex shoulder procedures

Participants also gained practical exposure through hands-on workshops covering shoulder arthroplasty, shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, Bankart repair, augmentation procedures and other surgical applications.

The exchange of ideas between experienced experts and delegates made Day 2 a meaningful academic experience focused on improving clinical understanding and surgical decision-making.

Day 3: Knee Programme

19 September 2026

The final day was dedicated to the Knee Programme, bringing together more than 35 faculty members and around 300 delegates.

The day commenced with the Grand Orthopaedic Quiz, followed by "My Worst Case" — a compelling session presenting challenging clinical cases and valuable insights into complex decision-making, surgical challenges and lessons from real-world orthopaedic practice.

The scientific programme featured expert discussions, case-based learning, relive surgery presentations and hands-on training covering:

• Contemporary ACL reconstruction
• Meniscus repair
• Cartilage restoration
• Complex ligament procedures
• Joint preservation
• Osteotomies
• Patellar procedures
• Complex knee reconstruction

The programme provided participants with an opportunity to engage with contemporary concepts and practical approaches in knee surgery and rehabilitation.

Grand Orthopaedic Quiz

The Grand Orthopaedic Quiz brought together postgraduate trainees to demonstrate their orthopaedic knowledge, clinical acumen and quick thinking.

Four teams competed in the finals in a closely contested academic competition.

Mohandas–Weller Gold Medal Award

The prestigious Mohandas–Weller Gold Medal Award provided young orthopaedists with a platform to present innovative ideas and insights on complex clinical cases.

Through a series of thought-provoking paper presentations, participants showcased their academic work, clinical perspectives and innovative approaches across various areas of orthopaedics.

Established to nurture budding talent, encourage lateral thinking and foster interest in solving complex orthopaedic challenges, the award continues to recognise and celebrate academic excellence among young orthopaedists.

The three-day IGOF Master Course in Shoulder & Knee 2026 concluded with a closing note by Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, Secretary, IGOF and Managing Director, MIOT International.

Greetings from the Indo-German Orthopaedic Foundation!

When two AO stalwarts, Prof. Siegfried Weller and Prof. Dr. P. V. A. Mohandas, came together with a visionary idea to create a common platform that would empower young orthopaedic surgeons across the world, the Indo-German Orthopaedic Foundation (IGOF) was born in 1992. Rooted in a shared commitment to learning, collaboration, and excellence, the Foundation has grown steadily over the decades.

What began as an educational initiative has evolved into a movement shaping surgeons to meet the demands of modern orthopaedic care.

I am delighted to invite you to a three-day academic fest, IGOF Master Course in Shoulder and Knee, from 17^th, 18^th & 19^th September 2026. The programme integrates advanced shoulder and knee surgery with sports medicine, followed by evidence-based rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The course reinforces a fundamental truth that our work is complete not at the final suture, but when patients regain ease of movement and confidence in daily life.

IGOF organizes the Grand Orthopaedic Quiz to test the sharpest IQs of some of the finest minds in the healthcare fraternity. The platform welcomes those medical professionals who have a penchant for the intricacies in the field of orthopaedics. The event offers an opportunity to stamp a seal of authority in the country's premier battle of the medical brains.

Participation Requisites:

• Should be a Postgraduate Trainee
• Each team should send CVs of all team members (Total 3 members per team) to registrations@igof.in

Accolades:

• Winning team shall be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-
• First runners-up team shall be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-
• Every participant shall claim their participation certificate

Mohandas – Weller Gold Medal Award

Pre-Lunch Session: 18^th & 19^th September 2026

The prestigious Mohandas-Weller Gold Medal Award is conferred to young orthopaedic surgeons who can come up with innovative ideas or a distinguished presentation on a complex case. This award is an initiative to boost the budding talent to spread their lateral thinking across various interests in the field of orthopaedics and to attend complex scenarios with special interest, giving attention to details and to crack difficult problems.

Participation Requisites for Paper Presentation:

• Should be a postgraduate or young orthopaedic surgeon below 40 years
• The participants have to register and then submit the paper at the preview booth before 9am on the day of their presentation
• Only first 4 registrants (1 presentation by each) will be selected for this pre-lunch presentation
• Each presentation will be for 5 mins, with 2 mins for questions

Accolades:

• 'Mohandas-Weller' Gold Medal for the Winner
• Cash prize of Rs. 80,000/- for the Winner and Rs. 50,000/- for the Runner-up
• Certificate for Winner and Runner-up
